Incredible views in Bulgaria

We crossed the mighty Danube river into Bulgaria and did a wonderful quiet drive through an area of forested hills, rising mountains and prostitutes. There seemed to be a hooker every 2km, waiting in truck size pullouts. We started playing spot the prostitute ‘there’s another!’ ‘We got panties on show to the left!’. Some were…

Raving about Romania

What a great start to Romania, every person we’ve spoken to has had a big welcoming smile and it makes all the difference. Plus, the English seems remarkably better than in the neighbouring countries. One worker even started conversation with us telling us nice places to visit and how apparently England wrote in its papers…

The thermal cave pools in Hungary

Hungary is well known for its thermal baths, we were only swinging through the country but made sure a day of relaxation was involved. Just to make us really need a relax day, we had a small car crash. Brilliant. We chose the thermal caves on the outskirts of Miskolc, a city in northern Hungary….

Slovak Paradise

The Tatra mountains form a natural border between Poland and Slovakia and are the highest mountains along the 1200km Carpathian Mountain Range. It was overcrowded in Poland so we were excited to head to the Slovakian side. We stopped at a very helpful info centre in Tatranska Lomnica. The girl advised us of some nice…

Up’s and Down’ in Poland

Poland hasn’t been as exciting as I’d expected. We visited some lakes in the north and finally had a day relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of cities after the Baltic’s. They’ve been the only swimmable lakes we’ve come across in Poland, the ones down south were murky and rubbish ridden. We woke before…

Pablo’s near death in Poland

So we managed to buy the simple parts needed for Pablo from an auto shop, but Nissan couldn’t fit us in for 4 days. As it was an easy job replacing two bushes to stop a clanky noise, we could get any garage to do it, so we asked around. Kia charged double Nissan, and…

Our first slice of the Baltic Sandwich

We didn’t spend long in Estonia, just 3 days, but we enjoyed what we saw of it and Tallinn is one of my favourite cities. Heading south we stopped in a few villages, and at Soomaa National Park looking for wildlife. The park is mainly made up of bog, and is said to have a…

Living the dream – Campervan life

Here are a few photos of the past few days road-tripping around the fjords in Norway. Absolutely loving campervan life, it’s my favourite way to travel, we’ve done a lot of backpacking and it’s so nice to shed the turtle house and have a home on wheels again.

Fjords, Glaciers and magnificent mountains

Sognefjord is the longest and deepest fjord in Norway at 204km and 1308m respectively. It has many other fjords veering off it like branches of a tree. We spent a couple of days driving around the fjord and sleeping in idyllic spots next to the calm waters with the occasional seal visitor. I’ve realised Norway…

The mighty hike to Trolltunga

The hike to Trolltunga is said to take 8-10hrs, it’s 22km return, and 900m elevation gain, but you are rewarded with the incredible ‘trolls tounge’ at the end. I wasn’t too keen on the idea, my longest hike was probably in the sweltering jungle of Nepal searching for rhinos for about 30km on foot, it…
