Lauren and Craig | The story so far.
Currently: We are back home in Sussex, England and saving up for our next adventure.
Craig and I met 12 years ago while working at Pizza Express in the South East of England. We saved up for one year, got working holiday visas for Australia and flew to Sydney in August 2008…and we’ve never looked back.
We instantly fell in love with our new nomadic lifestyle and quickly mastered the art of living simply and on a budget. We’ve bought and sold 6 campervans around the world, each one we’ve called home and have found the freedom of living and travelling in a van has surpassed any other form of travel. When we’re not exploring in a home on wheels we can be found backpacking or volunteering to enable us to stretch our funds which we earn from working as waiters for around 6 months at a time in the UK or with various working holiday visas around the world. The volunteering has been an eye opener for us and a great way to experience new countries, we’ve found ourselves making mud bricks in the Sahara Desert, house sitting in Greece, helping build a bothy on a private island in Scotland and taking guests snow shoeing in the Norwegian Arctic.
Our most recent two year leg of the trip (2018/19) had us volunteering in Arctic Norway for 6 months, watching the aurora swirl above our heads and endless sunsets. We then made our way across to Central Asia to backpack around Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. After the suffocating hot summer air and many uncomfortable but memorable nights spent in yurts under the milky way we headed back to South East Asia for a break in Thailand. We also explored some new countries; Myanmar, Sri Lanka, The Maldives and Luxembourg. The following year we returned back to Norway for another winter season in the Arctic (the landscape is unbeatable) and worked in a remote village so we could get the money together for a new van to renovate and travel around North America for 6 months. We topped all wildlife expectations on the trip and witnessed grizzlies devouring salmon, wolf packs in the Canadian Rockies and Orcas celebrating a kill off Vancouver Island. We then spent some time exploring the peaks of Patagonia before flying across the pond for some backpacking in Jordan, Turkey and Egypt. What a bloody adventure it’s been…
